Rainy Days and Wednesdays...

So tonight I thought I'd join the tri club President and some others for a brick workout. The clouds looked iffy but what the hell right. We meet up at Villa Park Depot and plans were for a straight shot up that road for 30 minutes then back 30.

We weren't even to Wood Dale and the drops started to come, slowly at first, taunting us to go farther, because, after all, it wasn't coming down to hard. Well that quickly came to an end by Thorndale RD, were we decided to turn around, I was soaked, not a dry spot on my person. Its amazing how fast you can cycle when you are just looking to get back home and out of the rain. Thankfully no thunder or lightening, but it was pouring pretty steady and a couple of time the cross wind really pushed you sideways... kind of scary when its wet and your in traffic, not a lot of room for error, on my part of that of the drivers.

We almost got in our hour ride 5 minutes shy, tad over 18.5 miles, avg pace 16mph, max speed 25.57, tempurature drop of 15 or so degrees... needless to say a hot shower and hot tea was in order when I got home and peeled out of my soaking wet clothes. We skipped the run.

1/2 Marathon Program

And I signed up for this again not necessarily with any thought of running a 1/2 marathon, more for the company on runs and to force myself to run. Its a beginners 1/2 marathon program, first meeting is 5/18 and first group run is the next week and its on Sunday at 4pm the group runs so no getting up at the crack of dawn or at least I can get up at that crack for biking, take a nap, then run. Train my body to run when its tired because that is exactly how it feels in a tri anyhow.

Its geared toward running the CDC but we will be in Amishland on the weekend bike adventure. And the running will certainly help with my tri training... so why not.

Monday's Fun Run

Again I just don't see the words FUN and RUN being paired together, but whatever...I go because I can always find someone to run at my snail pace.

This fun run happened to be on Cinco De Mayo. And at every fun run Jayne always has a little spread afterward. And you can't beat the cool give aways. There is usually a brand of shoe vendor there allowing you to give a trial run in their shoes, this month it was Adidas and the best Mexican custume got a new pair of Adidas shoes, then they raffled of socks and cliff blocs. I LOVE new socks. So I scored a bit after the run, new pair of socks, headband and some margarita cliff blocs - hey I'm a simple gal for the most part.

So we hung out for a bit with the other runners afterward and Jayne the store owner said I think you should sign up.... sign up, I did, she said for the walk to run program, uh no for the 1/2 marathon training program.... Oh that's great she said but what I meant is I want YOU to co-lead a walk to run program, I think you'd be PERFECT for it, ME, are you sure your talking to the right person? Yes I think you'd be great, you have a wonderful personality and I think you'd be great at leading never run before folks in a walk to run program and for your time and trouble, if you'd be interested, I'd let you purchase your stuff in the store at cost!

Woo HOO the thought of Gel Kayano's were running thru my head, AT COST no less! So I said OK... in the coming weeks Jayne will contact myself and Judy (co-leader) ww will meet with Jayne to discuss this. I'm thinking she wants to start it early fall as I'm not sure you'd get a lot of takers this time of the year but who knows.

I am so not a leader of any sort but I can pretend for purchasing at cost!

Sunday in the Park

My Sunday started off with a wicked headache, not sure from what. Took some tylenol first thing upon waking because we were supposed to go biking. Waited for temps to warm up a touch and we went out at about 8:30.

From Elmhurst we went thru Hinsdale, then around Water Fall Glen, the thru this neighborhood in Burr Ridge with some interesting hills - proves one thing to me I am SO not ready for the hillage at Galena but it will be what it will be - granny gear will have to be my rescue. I'm happy to say I did not walk up one hill but sure the hell felt like it a few times - my tush was still a bit sore as well as my quads from mountain biking on Saturday.

I'm still not use to the traffic thing. I can fell my shoulders start to hunch up when there is a bunch of traffic on the road with us. Case in point for going out early and getting back early but we were on the back home ride about the time every church on earth was letting out.

Anyhow the trip amounted to 42 miles in 3 hrs I'm sure it would have been a much quicker ride if I could attack hills better but near the top of some you look down and see 7mph or less, it tends to kill the average pace for the entire ride a bit.

Afterward we went to Elmhursts Art in the Park many different types of vendors selling jewlery, yard art, paintings, various crafts - some really neat stuff - we walked the mile or so there, walked around and walked home - I was pretty beat by 9pm cause I never was able to catch a quick nap. Kevin managed one while I went to the grocery store... of course he was suppose to have the grill ready when I got home so we could get dinner going - nope sound asleep on the sofa.
