Valentine's Day

this drew some fire on Facebook and likely might here also....but its only MY opinion... no one is required to agree with it...and I readily admit... I am NOT a holiday person.

But... with that said!

I do NOT get this hype over Valentine's Day.  And I don't think it has anything to do with being with your soul mate or not.  Truth is, be it your soul mate or whomever...

love and affection should be shown everyday not just one day a year...

And what about those that are single?  Anyone stop to think about that?  Do we have a day of the year the celebrates being single?

I am not against love... heck I love LOVE.... but this hype for one day, this pressure that husbands or wives feel to get this gift for the other... just, to me, seems... well silly!

Quite honestly I prefer a card, flowers, a plant, chocolate, etc...

for no reason at all...

in fact just some random day to me...like say June 3rd and my sweetie sends me flowers or leaves a cute note in my car means so much more to me than something he may or may not do on February 14th.

See on Feb 14th there is this unspoken obligation to get your sweetheart something... heaven help the man that dare cometh home on 2/14 w/o a gift of some sort in his hands... I don't want anyone to feel obligated to me... no do it for no reason at all just because its some random tuesday and you wanted to express you love to me... THAT to me.. means oh so much more....

While there were a lot of reason for the failing of my marriage to Mike... I can honestly say.. Mike WAS that kind of guy.... oh he got me plants, not flowers (cause to me flowers die and then you have nothing but a plant lives on) on 2/14, or took me to dinner if he wasn't working... but Mike also did those things on just random days and those always meant so much more...

Because it wasn't some Hallmark obligatory holiday staring him in the face and he felt like he HAD to do something... but on those random days it let me know he was thinking about me all the time!  If that makes sense to anyone... eh... maybe not.. maybe just me...

so maybe you and spouse could talk and instead of getting a gift for each other... maybe there is some random single person in your church or community or maybe its your best friend... why not make a pact to not get each other something and maybe show some love to someone that doesn't have a special someone in their life on 2/14?

Or maybe take that money you'd spend and donate it to church, or the the Haiti relief fund, or to some family desperately trying to find the funds to adopt a child that needs a home???

Just my .02...ok .01 w/inflation these days!

I absolutely agree with your post. It means more to me with a random flower (one is enough) than a mandatory gift because of a holiday. :O)

Yes, I totally agree. It does put that pressure on some people, and I already know a couple of single people who do not like this "holiday." For me, personally, I don't care about receiving gifts (or does my husband), but I do love to shower our kids with candy!! LOL
