Contemplation and Action

Been moaning and groaning for months now about my physique!  How once again I let myself become addicted to my drug....

FOOD!

It is like any other addiction, drug or alcohol or pornography or gambling or anything we do in excess that is bad for us (and yes even exercise can be done to excess).... it always there for you, always comforts you in good times and bad.

Now I don't necessarily agree with Webster's definition of addiction

Addiction - : compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance (as heroin, nicotine, or alcohol) characterized by tolerance and by well-defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal; broadly : persistent compulsive use of a substance known by the user to be harmful

I think addictions can be to things other than substance, such as gambling, pornography, excessive exercise... heck we can become addicted to certain people...

anyhow.... I've let MY addiction drag me back to places I don't like, mentally and physically.  I know one day I am going to learn the secrets of avoiding my addiction... I mean truth is you CAN'T avoid food, you have to eat, but what I need to learn for me is how not to use food to comfort me when I'm sad, give me something to do when I am bored, etc...

So I've contemplated about doing something about it long enough its time to put it into action... Part of that catalyst was committing to two friends, Erin and Steve, to compete with them in Merritt Island Florida on October 30, 2010...

As of today its 182 days (27 weeks) away... but since June I've also let my addiction add 50lbs to my frame and I am/was so dangerously close to seeing my all time high (215, Jan 1, 2002) again on the scale.  God gave me this earthly body to be treated as a temple, and I certainly have not done that lately.

Time for some serious action!

good luck; seems like you got a good goal and time to work on it too

I know what you mean about addiction and food; I have gained and lost the same 30-50 pounds I cannot tell you how many times (currently work my weigh down AGAIN). You think I would learn. One thing I have learned this time around is I'm really good taking the weight off when I'm motivated, I just make my goal that weight I want to get to. I have never looked beyond the goal long enough to make the goal actually maintaining that weight. So this time I'm looking more at that as I'm losing weight. Might come off slower this time but I'm hoping to learn proper eating habits and nutrition and not to turn to food for the things you mentioned

I truly believe you can meet your goal!

I agree with Betty. My goal this time is to maintain once I lose it.
